Learning on the job

So it’s been two years since we opened our little micro store in London and it’s been a really interesting time. It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride so far and we’re managing to negotiate the twists and turns and ups and downs.

The best part of the job by far is meeting you, our customers. Standing face to face and talking about your likes, dislikes, what fits, and what doesn’t is both enlightening and refreshing. It’s great to be able to get customers to try things which they wouldn’t normally do and seeing a change in how they view themselves and their bodies – especially those who believe that a non-wired bra could never work for them.

The preconceptions go both ways however. I have held views about what I think a customer should or shouldn’t wear and have become humbled by the realisation that my opinion is not always right. Although this sounds obvious, I think it’s a natural human trait to believe that we know best, despite the world telling us that is not the case.

I’ve learnt that my job is to guide, inform, and sometimes educate woman about the lingerie I stock. To help them make informed choices about what lingerie may be best for them. The ultimate decision always lies with them. So thank you all for also teaching us some lessons in lingerie.

Although it’s definitely not been plain sailing, we’ve come to love our little shop on the corner and to get to know the locals, the office workers, tourists, students, and those who just pop in for a chat and a free choccy! So, if you’re ever in the area, feel free to pop in to say hello. We can talk about lingerie, the weather, my latest knitting project (which for the record is a dress jacket combo circa 1950 in pillar box red!), or the latest Gregory Porter album (”Who?” check him out folks).

Hope to see you soon
